Symptoms
similar to that of polio observed in Tigray State

November 11,2005 (WIC)-
Symptoms similar to that of polio have been observed on six
children in Tigray State, the regional Health Bureau disclosed.
Maternal
and Child Health Care team leader with the Bureau, Dr. Abayneh
Hagos told WIC today that the cases were reported during an
assessment made by a team of health professionals last month.
The
cases have been observed in Mekele, Asgede-Tsimbila,
Tahitay-Qoraro, Degatemben, Hawzen and Wuqro woredas, he said,
adding that blood samples have been sent to the capital to
confirm the cases.
In
a related development, more than 780,000 children in Tigray
State have been vaccinated against polio during the campaign
carried out a week ago.
