- The Southern Ethiopian Peoples Democratic Movement (SPDEM)
finalized preparations for the 6th party conference to be held
in Hawasa town next Saturday, it announced.
The Executive Committee has created sub-committees to
undertake the necessary preparations for the conference to be
convened from August 6-9, 2008, SPDEM Public Mobilization
Affairs Head Debebe Abere told WIC today.
The basic associations have elected representatives in a fair
manner to take part in the conference, according to Debebe.
The committee has nearly finalized the preparation of the
draft proclamation that the conference will deliberate on, he
noted.
The four-day long conference will deliberate on a report
covering the last two years based on the resolutions made over
the period, Debebe said, adding that some legislative
amendments are also expected.
The congress that will be attended by 900 participants and 150
invited guests is expected to elect Central Committee members
to serve for the next two years as well as representatives to
take part in the 7th EPRDF conference to be held in Hawasa in
mid-September, Debebe said.
The Southern Ethiopian Peoples Democratic Movement (SPEDM)
currently has over 1.2 million members, it was learnt. (END) |
