EPRDF to set pace for intensifying dev't, good governance

A/A, September 1, 2008 (Addis Ababa) - Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) will hold its 7th Organizational Congress in September in the lakeside city of Hawassa, capital of the South Ethiopia Peoples’ State, Bereket Semeon, the head of EPRDF secretariat announced.

The meeting will elect chairperson and deputy chairperson for a two-year office leading the Front. In a press statement he gave on Monday, Bereket, who is also EPRDF executive committee member, said the front’s general assembly will meet for five days as of September 16.

The Congress takes up the lead theme: Let’s Build Ethiopia’s Renaissance on Firm Bulwark by Broadening Our Successful Practices, Bereket said.

The meeting will also appraise a report to be presented to it by EPRDF Inspection Commission. Prior to the general assembly, the front’s member organizations will hold separate conferences in the nine days beginning September 4, he said.

Then, the front’s general assembly will be an occasion where decisions will be passed concerning the general development directions the country will be pursuing in the coming two years, he indicated.

As part of its priority agenda items, the Congress will deliberate on and pass decisions on how best to shore up successes so far registered in the areas of development and good governance by expanding related works down to grassroots administrations throughout the country, he said.

Decisions will also be passed on ways of ensuring enhancement of the country’s infrastructure development, which include technological transfer, he added. (END)
