Addis Ababa, May 27, 2008 (WIC) - The Ethiopian Peoples
Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) disclosed that this
year's May 28 celebration has special meaning as it would be
marked at a time the country is marching along the path of
change and growth.
The statement issued by EPRDF Office in connection with the
17th anniversary of May 28 indicated that the event is unique
as it would be marked in the new Ethiopian millennium in which
the public are working jointly to ensure the renaissance of
the country in all sectors.
The celebration of the day just after the peaceful and
democratic conclusion of the recently held local and
by-elections as well as restructuring of kebele, woreda and
town administrations also makes it special, according to the
statement.
The May 28 victory has ushered the country into a new chapter
paving the road for peace, development and democracy as well
as emancipated it from poverty and backwardness, the statement
added.
The triumph the people of Ethiopia won over the dictatorial
Derg regime laid a solid foundation against the struggle on
poverty and backwardness; it said adding that the Front is
ready to discharge its responsibilities in this regard like it
had been doing over the past 17 years.
The policies and strategies designed to accelerate the
development and good governance endeavors have registered
encouraging results, it indicated adding that the task ahead
is replicating the achievements made in the others sectors.
The Front also pledged to further enhance the activities
launched in the agriculture, urban development, micro and
small-scale enterprises, construction of residential houses,
among others and urged the public to collaborate with the
government for their realization. (END) |
