Senior
party officials of the Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Front
and the National Congress of Peoples of Sudan (NCPS) have
expressed their desire to consolidate the relations of the
parties.
During a
meeting held on March 27, 2007 at the headquarters of EPRDF,
Deputy Chairman of NCPS, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Omar, said even if
the relationship of the governments of the two countries have
been encouraging, the relation of the parties is weak.
Executive Committee Member of EPRDF, Hailemariam Desalegne,
also said Ethiopia’s relation with the Sudanese government has
been improving, though the party relations are not as strong
as required.
Both
officials therefore underscored the need for strengthened
relationship of the parties.
Hailemariam on the occasion briefed the Sudanese delegation on
the progress of his country. He said Ethiopia was able to
register an annual growth of 9.5 percent in the last four
years.
The
country has also established mutually beneficial relations
with all neighboring countries, except Eritrea.
Dr. Omar
appreciated Ethiopia’s effort in bringing peace and stability
to the Sudan and Somalia in particular, and to the region in
general. He also expressed his hope that the country will
continue with its effort of advancing sustainable peace in the
region.
The
officials finally agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding
in the near future. (END) |
