Axum January 7, 2008 (ENA)- Some 180,000 voters have so
far been registered in various Woredas of Central Tigray Zone
to cast votes in the upcoming local and national by-elections,
the Zonal office of the electoral board said.
Board Head Ataklti Kumelit told ENA that more than 630,000
voters in the Zone are expected to be registered.
Registration of voters would be held till late January, he
said.
Some of residents of Axum town who registered expressed
readiness to vote for representatives who would work to ensure
good governance thereby alleviating poverty.
Others said they would elect those candidates who would
strive to transfer the immense historical and cultural
heritages of the Zone to the next generation.
