Youth, women packages ready for implementation

Addis Ababa, September 24, 2007 (WIC)– Ministry of Youth and Sports said preparations have been finalized to implement the Youth Development Package designed to alleviate the social, economic and political problems of the youth.

Minister of Youth and Sports Aster Mamo said at the meeting held with representatives of urban and rural youth at the Addis Park today, the ministry is ready to implement the package in Addis Ababa and Diredawa Administrations as well as Tigray, Amhara, SNNP and Oromia states.

In order to appropriately implement the package, training has been given to more than 325,000 leaders at federal, state, woreda and kebele levels.

Besides over three million organized students and youth in various associations were made aware of the objectives of the package and its implementation, she indicated.

Rules and regulations have been issued by the ministry and regional sports and youth bureaus for the execution of the package, Aster said, adding that the package will be implemented immediately upon the finalization of detailed work plan.

Similarly, preparations have been finalized to implement the Women Development Package designed to solve the social, economic and political problems of women this fiscal year, the Minister of Women's Affairs said.

The package which is designed in line with Women's Policy is believed to promote the role of women in the ongoing development activities, according to Minister Hirut Dellebo. The ministry has identified the activities that would help solve the problems of rural and urban women.

The two ministers also responded to questions raised by more than 5,000 youth who attended the meeting. (END)
