(WIC) – The Oromo People Democratic Organization (OPDO) said
it would field 1,764,000 candidates for the upcoming
elections.
OPDO Office Head Zelalem Jemaneh told
WIC today that the candidates recruited from all zones and
woredas of Oromia State are respected and influential persons.
He said 29 of the candidates would run
to fill the vacant seats in the House of Peoples
Representatives and Oromia State Council.
Some 21,774 candidates will contest
for woreda councils and the rest for rural and urban kebele
councils, the head added.
More than 50 percent of the candidates
are females, he indicated. (END)
